Character Development

Hello all!

I have worked on this every day this week! I am excited about this accomplishment because now I feel that I can get a lot more done from here forward. There's not much left to the semester, but I believe I can get a good chunk written by the time this project is presented. At this point I doubt I will finish the book in less than a semester, showing the past performance does not guarantee certain results (although the story I wrote in about a semester required a lot of editing afterwards and still does).

What did I write this week? A picture came across my social media which showed 45 questions to answer about a character, and if you could answer all of them, then it was a well developed character, While I didn't have the same amount of time to write every day, I did work on these for the characters I've met so far. I've finished the questions (or very nearly have) for Jessie, Alvin, and William. My plans for this week are to work on this every day (at least up through Friday, when my wisdom teeth come out), and finish with character development.

  1. Your story sounds really cool! I like how you decided to skip all of the historical parts of Genesis's life and go right to her life in the present. I'm interested on how you'll keep Genesis impartial to having friends and creating relationships with people. I really want to know how the story will progress and I kind of want to read it. :)

  2. Wow ! I like how you are very open about your characters and how you give them these very cool features and characteristics ! Im sure you can expand a lot on your main point of the story due to the many things that are going on. I'm glad I was able to read all your blogs and feel the excitement of getting a finished product as you are definetly getting one. Good Luck!

  4. You go girl! You are killing this project. You seem very dedicated! 20% of class time is most definitely not enough time, and I am glad that you love your topic enough to give it a lot of time. When you first presented this project to me, I was so interested. For some reason, it just was the coolest. I think it was because you told me you've written many novel length stories before and because I enjoyed your passion for writing. I don't really like language arts; I am a math and science person all the way, but after reading your blog, I have a feeling I am going to want to read the finish product. The idea is so unique! (Actually, it might have already been done. I don't know. I don't read much.) It is awesome you found that picture/article on Facebook about the 45 questions to answer to know that you have created a well developed character. Since you have answered all 45, I know you will write a kick-butt novel. I am going to read this novel- if you share it- I expect greatness because I know you are capable of doing delivering it.

  5. EMILY!!
Your project is such a cool idea! It makes me wish that I had the gift for writing.
As for your actual writing, it sounds awesome! The 45 questions that you found kind of shocked me. I never thought about how writing a novel took THAT much thinking about EACH character individually, their background stories, and how each of them will mesh. I want to give you props for picking this project in the first place, and then not giving up on it... even when your weeks seem to have been super busy.
I am excited to see your finished project in December... I know it will be awesome. YOU GOT THIS GIRL! Good luck :)

  6. Your book idea is really cool, especially how you made Genesis an actual character, and not one of those all powerful, all knowing perfect beings that Fantasy is so fond of (*elves cough cough*). That's the thing that cool about your particular project- you're actually putting some effort into your characters, unlike most fantasists. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Try and post some writing samples- It'd give more of an impression of what you're doing.

  7. The fact that your writing stories is simply amazing to me because it requires so much talent. I hope you create one of those shakespeare type short stories that is read in high schools 20 years from on. I can't wait to see your presentation. I can clearly see your very dedicated which will give you a nice short story to read aloud to us! Good luck!
